Extend your reach with hashtags

Hashtags are an amazing way to extend the reach of your Instagram content. Unfortunately, finding the right mix of popular ones (with lots of viewers) and less popular ones (where you can stand out as top content) is more art than science. Here are a couple tools we like to use for inspiration: For Display Purposes Only lets you easily find related hashtags and the Focalmark app  has a curated selection geared for photography.

We also like to put most of our hashtags in the first comment to keep the captions cleaner and more readable. If you do use the first comment, just don’t wait too long to add them. The longer you wait, the further you’ll be pushed down in the “recent photos” section for the hashtag.
